Booklist - Doctors Without Borders

Cover: Doctors Without Borders

Founded in 1971 by French doctors and journalists, Doctors Without Borders has grown to become a worldwide organization of almost 30,000 people, providing services from health care to counseling to plumbing and electrical work. The book is divided into three short chapters, and the two-page spreads remain consistent: an informational narrative appropriate for primary readers on the left, a color photograph spanning the gutter, and sidebars with information and questions for upper-elementary readers. The simple narrative offers fodder for primary research, and the thought-provoking sidebars will provide older readers with research ideas. The photos, with their unusual global subjects, are notable, though, unfortunately, part of every picture is lost because of its centerfold placement. Still, this entry in the How Do They Help? series fills a gap for primary information.
