Each volume in this series begins with overview essays that explore the scope of a disease or disorder, including causes, symptoms, treatment and current issues and research developments. The second section presents controversies surrounding the topic, generally through pro and con essays, and the third section features personal narratives recounting the challenges and often painful realizations gained through first-hand experience either by those with the disease or their loved ones. Chapters include “fast facts” sidebars, engaging and relevant color photos, and eye-catching charts and graphs of important statistics. Also included are a chronology of significant dates, a glossary of key medical terms, an annotated list of related support organizations, a two or three page bibliography of recommended books and periodical articles for further research, and a detailed index.
