Executive Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Business Development
John Barnes is executive vice president, Strategic Marketing and Business Development for Gale, one of the world's leading information publishers. Mr. Barnes has leadership responsibility for all marketing, business development and corporate strategy activities at Gale, including market strategy, marketing communications, acquisitions, strategic alliances, content licensing, and new market development.
Mr. Barnes joined Gale in 1998 and most recently spearheaded business development. His responsibilities spanned the development of partnerships, alliances and acquisitions for library market growth and driving new end-user market development.
When he joined Gale, Mr. Barnes established its Product Management team. He led Product Management during the critical merging of the electronic publishing programs of IAC, Gale Research and Primary Source Microfilm, setting a variety of aggressive new product development strategies, including Gale's highly acclaimed Resource Centers and InfoTrac program.
Mr. Barnes is a 23-year veteran of the information industry. Prior to joining Gale, he spent three years at Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), a Dublin, Ohio-based information and library services company, as Director of Electronic Publishing. While there he was charged with establishing a new business in aggregating and archiving electronic scholarly journals. Before OCLC, Mr. Barnes was with ProQuest Company, an Ann Arbor, Michigan-based information publishing company, holding a series of senior product management, general management and technical positions.
Mr. Barnes holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan.
